The 2017 Geneva Motor Show showcased some very exciting new cabriolets and roadsters. They included some stunning new vehicles from Bentley, Pagani, and Mercedes-Benz.
This year’s motor show also displayed some incredible technological breakthroughs in the form of new prototypes and exotic supercars. We were very excited to see some new folding roof designs on a couple of vehicles using magnesium and other lightweight materials.
This post is going to take a closer look at some of the vehicles that caught our eye at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show — The exciting Bentley EXP12 6E concept car, the ferocious Pagani Huayra Roadster, and the beautiful Mercedes AMG C43 (coupe and cabriolet).
About the Geneva Motor Show
The Geneva Motor Show is the world’s most famous motor show. Established in 1905, it has hosted almost every model of vehicle known to man! It is regularly used by manufacturers to show off their latest prototypes and technological innovations.
Vehicle manufacturers enjoy bringing vehicles to the Geneva Motor Show because it is considered a level playing field for car makers. Specific manufacturers aren’t given preference over others and every car maker has the opportunity to show off their wonderful creations.
About 100 cars were showcased by manufacturers at the most recent show, including vehicles from BMW, Alpina, Abarth, Kia, Mazda, Subaru, Sin Cars, and Renault. Basically, if a car maker has created something great, they will bring it to this car show!
Bentley EXP12 6E Concept Car
One of the most exciting vehicles to be shown at the Geneva Motor Show was the Bentley EXP12 6E concept car. It is an electric-powered cabriolet with an incredible level of luxury.
Bentley claims the car represents the “future of Bentley design — inside and out”. After seeing the vehicle first-hand, we can only hope Bentley continues to make convertibles like this!
The exterior has a sleek and sporty design that is quite unique. Bentley claims it was influenced by the design of aircraft fuselages and modern architecture. We can definitely see that influence with the vehicle’s subtle curves resembling a modern building you might find in Dubai or Shanghai.
The body has a long bonnet and wide planted rear to give it an unmistakable sporty appearance. When you see this car, you immediately know it is designed for speed! There is an illuminated ‘6’ logo which can be seen through the smoked stainless steel grille — an interesting feature that highlights the uniqueness of this car.
In true Bentley style, the interior is absurdly luxurious. The centre console features a huge piece of glass that houses a high-definition OLED curved display. Most of the onboard controls are accessible through this panel — it really is like something from the future.
It wouldn’t be a Bentley without plenty of leather and wood in the interior. There are also copper highlights throughout the interior to match the copper framed lights on the front of the car.
The electric engine is high performance and designed to deliver high levels of torque. The battery can be charged rapidly and can drive from London to Paris in a single charge. We can only hope this car is released on the mass market in the near future (and costs less than a flat in London).
Pagani Huayra Roadster
It has been almost 7 years since Pagani unveiled the Pagani Huayra. It is one of the most exclusive sports cars in the world, with only 100 being produced on its initial run. In 2011, it famously set a record as the faster road car to go around the Top Gear Test Track, beating some very tough competition from the Aston Martin Vulcan, Bugatti Veyron 16.4, and Lamborghini Sesto Elemento.
Pagani unveiled the new roaster model at the Geneva Motor Show to some very excited motor vehicle enthusiasts. It is a stunning car that is capable of some mind blowing speeds. If you are driving with the folding roof down in this beauty, you better make sure your Toupé is glued on!
The engine has been upgraded in the Pagani Huayra Roadster and is now capable of producing 753 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. It is a V12 bi-turbo engine with upgraded throttle response compared to the coupe.
There are two roof designs available for the Pagani Huayra Roadster. A detachable hardtop made of carbon fibre and glass is the first option. The other is a foldable fabric roof. List price is somewhere around 1.85 million pounds, so start saving those pennies!
Mercedes–AMG C43 Coupe & Cabriolet
To celebrate their 50th anniversary Mercedes-AMG released three new models at the Geneva Motor Show this year. They are the AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50, the C63 S Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition, and the C43 Coupe and Cabriolet AMG Performance Studio Packages.
The AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50 is a high performance vehicle featuring a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 capable of pushing out 550 hp. It comes with a beautiful Nappa leather interior and state-of-the-art fabric folding roof.
This folding roof on the AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50 is the lightest ever released by Mercedes-AMG. It uses magnesium and aluminium structural pieces with a carbon fibre and plastic boot lid. This folding roof can fold out or collapse in 11 seconds at up to 50 km per hour.
The C43 AMG Cabriolet, is an entry-level AMG with a twin-turbocharged 3.0 litre engine that can deliver 362 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. It uses the 4-Matic all-wheel-drive system with a 9g-tronic system. This is sure to be a popular model and we look forward to seeing one in our repair shop.
The Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition is limited to just 150 cars worldwide. It has a beautiful ocean blue soft top, which is highly unusual for Mercedes and is sure to make the car a collectible. The same colour is used on the car’s wheel caps, bumper and clock.
It comes with a 4.0-liter twin turbo V-8 engine with 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, so it has plenty of power under the hood also!
