Convertible Leaks and Water Ingress

Every car is at some risk of flooding and leaks, whether it be through the windows, doors or sunroof – damp often manages to creep its way in.

The VW Eos convertible has a complicated and sophisticated roof system allowing the driver and its passengers to enjoy the luxury of a hard top folding roof system and to enjoy either the sunroof option or the completely topless folding roof in one model.

It’s an understatement to say that convertible drivers “like” their cars. They are usually madly in love with their convertible and the exhilarating feeling they get when driving with the top down.

Convertibles are especially vulnerable to water ingress (where water gets into the car’s interior) because their roofs have extra seams, moving parts, and in some cases, softer materials. Soft tops have stitched joins and absorbent fabric; retractable hard tops add extra joints and seals that can misalign or wear.
